A Letter From Our Founder
I believe God entrusted all of us with a mission.
Mine is to steward the care of elderly people in desperate circumstances—specifically those who are disabled, vulnerable, and those who have served our country.
The Word of God tells us:
"Open thy mouth… plead the cause of the poor and needy."
— Proverbs 31:8–9, KJVIt is too easy to turn our backs and tell ourselves, this is not my problem.
But if we believe in God, it is.
For me, that calling became impossible to ignore on Biscayne Bay.

Look closer, and you see something very different.
From a distance, the boats scattered across Biscayne Bay looked like part of Miami's beautiful scenery.
Up close, I found something very different.
Elderly men and women were living aboard deteriorating vessels—some disabled, some facing serious medical crises, and some who had served our country.
In the brutal South Florida heat, many were living without reliable water, air conditioning or sanitation. Some had lost their homes, their health, their families—and nearly all of the stability they once knew.
I could not simply look away.
That is why The Refuge exists.
We provide safe housing, compassionate care and determined advocacy—helping people move from crisis to stability.
